Insights from Mira Claudia, Business Coach

How Checklist Legal helped business owner Mira create a set of contracts that would flex with her virtual assistant and business coaching business.

About Mira Claudia & The Life of a Virtual Assistant

Mira Claudia is the Queen of reinvention. Two years ago, she left corporate and set up her own virtual assistant business, The Life of a Virtual Assistant. It was an instant hit with small business owners, but Mira quickly found her social media skills in demand. So, she pivoted her business and made social media management her core offering.

Mira knows what she’s doing on socials. Her accounts quickly drew a following for their bright, cheeky, engaging and uplifting vibe. As more business owners approached Mira for advice about how to create what she’d built for herself, she spotted an opportunity to pivot her business again. Today, the Life of a Virtual Assistant has evolved into coaching for online service providers across a range of industries.

As someone who moves quickly and learns fast, Mira originally developed her own contracts for her business. A quick google, and she’d adapted something she found online for her own clients. However, this never sat right with her. Mira’s socials might be very pink and super fun, but she’s an absolute professional. She wanted the back-end of her business to reflect the high quality of the services she offered.

The Challenge

Mira had invested in professionals to design her website and write her copy, but her contracts had been lower on her priority list. After two successful years in business, she knew it was time to level up her contracts to reflect her professionalism. Mira’s challenge to Verity was to design contracts that would flex with her business reinvention and reflect her unique way of ‘doing business’ with clients.

I like to stand out a little bit and do things that other aren’t doing. Other online service providers may not invest in their contracts or terms and conditions. But for me, I wanted to tick all the boxes and show my professionalism.

The Solution

The final solution for The Life of a Virtual Assistant was a suite of on-brand legal documents mapped to the client journey. Verity helped Mira understand that as well as a client contract, she would benefit from Terms and Conditions and a Privacy Policy. Mira was excited to discover that Verity was an expert at embedding brand DNA into contracts and documents. Her unique brand voice and look and feel would be felt by clients across all touchpoints.

The Results

Contracts that give you confidence to do business your way

Early on in her business, Mira was let down by a couple of clients. After starting work for them, they realised social media management wasn’t their jam. Mira missed out on working with other people she’d initially turned away when her books were full. To protect her time and deliver on her values, she invented new terms and conditions for future clients.

Working with Verity gave Mira the reassurance that the terms and conditions she had set for service delivery and payments were fair and legal. Together, they brainstormed different scenarios and finessed Mira’s Terms and Conditions so they were reasonable and compassionate for both Mira and her clients.

It was really reassuring knowing that Verity had so much experience and knowledge. I knew she would hold me accountable for what I’d put in my contract. I felt supported and was certain I’d have something that held the foundations of my business together.

Before Mira worked with Verity, she’d been second-guessing whether she was ‘allowed’ to say some of the things she’d put in her contracts. Sending them out made her feel anxious that someone would point out an error. In fact, Mira didn’t even understand a lot of what she’d included there herself. Verity was needed to translate them into plain English.

Originally I downloaded so many free contract templates to create my own. They had long paragraphs and were mumbo jumbo – I had no idea what the words meant. When I got my documents back from Verity I was wowed! She’d captured a bit of me and brought in my lingo. There’s nothing in the agreement or contract that can’t be understood.

Mira’s fun and playful spirit has been captured in her documents. The Life of a Virtual Assistant’s font and brand colours are used throughout. They also contain quirky turns of phrase that mimic the language Mira uses on her socials. For example, if you want to work with Mira, you’ll be asked if you ‘accept this rose’ to sign on the dotted line and make your business relationship official.

Contracts that empower you to protect your IP

Mira originally took on longer term clients for ongoing social media management. Following her shift to business coaching, she began signing up clients for shorter periods, such as 8-week coaching packages. Today, she offers an array of services including group coaching, Zoom calls and masterclasses. Checklist Legal’s documents flex for all scenarios.

Mira’s contracts include a dedicated section where she can swap key criteria in or out, depending on which services she is offering. The most essential elements remain the same, including payment terms, conditions for refunds, and confidentiality and privacy details.

When I send out a contract designed by Verity, I feel like I’ve bossed it! I’ve been getting so much feedback that my contract is amazing! I now understand why my documents are integral for my business.

Because everything takes place online, Mira has been able to streamline her onboarding process. She feels empowered to manage her own contracts now; secure in the knowledge that she is protected no matter what services she offers.

The final word on Mira’s contracts

Mira is incredibly happy with the courage and confidence her new business documents have given her. Today, she recommends that all her business coaching clients invest in their contracts with Verity, to protect themselves and show their commitment to professionalism.

The end result after working with Verity is outstanding. My contracts make me feel that little bit more professional in my business, and give me the confidence to back myself. I know that if anyone ever did come back to me with an issue, I have this contract that’s my saviour. Verity’s a boss!
